Intervention packages to support nurturing care

Date: October 3, 2017
Time: 9:00 – 17:00
Location: The conference venue, Het Pand, Onderbergen 1, 9000 Ghent, meeting room Zaal rector Vermeylen

This free, pre-conference workshop will offer an orientation on and general information to two intervention packages to support nurturing care: Care for Child Development (CCD) and the International Guide for Monitoring Child Development (GMCD). The workshop will inform participants of the potential of these tools, and also equip them with new insights and knowledge, thus being a professional development opportunity.

WHO and UNICEF developed the Care for Child Development intervention package to assist caregivers in building strong relationships with young children and solve challenges in providing nurturing care. CCD incorporates responsive caregiving in building relationships between caregivers and children. Through activities of play and communication, adults learn how to be sensitive to the needs of children and respond appropriately to meet them.

The International Guide for Monitoring of Child Development (GMCD), developed by University of Ankara, is a free-of-charge comprehensive package informed by bio-ecological theory. The GMCD package enables providers to monitor and support children’s development, support caregivers in providing nurturing, responsive stimulation, identify and address health and psychosocial risk factors, and apply community-based early interventions.
